Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) is hosting mega sport event 71st MEN& 34th WOMEN Senior National Weightlifting Championship 2019 From 21st To 28th February-2019, Visakhapatnam from 24th October to 30th October-2017 in association with National Weightlifting Federation of India.
National Weightlifting Federation of India has assigned the responsibility to East Coast Railway Sports Association, Waltair to host this year’s National Championship at Visakhapatnam, an ideal place for this event. There is every reason that Vizag has been rewarded with such a prestigious national sports event and everyone expects good response from the public of Visakhapatnam.
The previous National Championship was conducted at Mangalore, Karnataka last year 2018. Shri Korada Ramana representing Railways bagged 1st rank in the championship. Shri V.Chinnama Naidu, representing Andhra Pradesh was in 6th Rank in last year champion ship.
Railway Sports Promotion Board has always been in the forefront in encouraging sports at PAN-India level and are the largest sports institution in the country who have been involved in different sports activities incluidng recruitment of outstanding athletes, giving them incentives for their outstanding performances after induction in Railways and continue with rigorous physical training to produce india’s best sportspersons on International level. RSPB has a fleet of 3000 active sportpersons consisting of more than thousand National and International medalists in 29 disciplines on its roll today.
With its old tradition of about 90 years, Indian Railways have been producing outstanding sportspersons in 29 game disciplines including Boxing and has had on its rolls many national and international awardees including Olympians, World and Asian Champions namely Md. Shahid, Madan Lal, Harvinder Singh, Bhaskaran, Sushil Kumar, PT Usha, Diana Edulji, Bahadur Prasad and many more.
Indian Railways has on its roll many a prominent Weightlifters Shri Mirabhai Chanu, Padmasree awardee and Commonwealth games medalist, other Commonwealth games medalists like Poonam Yadav, Guru Raja of Services, RV Rahul ( also National Record Holder) Gurudeep Singh, Pradeep Singh, Viswas Thakur, Swati Singh, Matya Santhosi among others will take part in this Championship. This
In the forthcoming National Weightlifting Championship, RSPB/ ECoRSA expect a gathering of more than 600 players and approximately 800 delegates in total from 33 teams’ representing 29 States, Services, Railways, All India Police and Food Corporation of India. All delegates including players, coaches, technical officials have been provided furnished accommodated in 2 Kms radius from the venue and sufficient transport arrangement were made. 10 to 15 international Referee Judges will be participating in the championship.
