Adm R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) accompanied by Mrs Kala Hari Kumar President of the Naval Welfare and Wellness Association undertook a three-day visit to the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) Visakhapatnam from 30 May to 01 June 2023.
During his visit, Admiral R Hari Kumar presented gallantry awards and distinguished service medals to Naval recipients on behalf of the President of India.
The CNS also interacted with Vice Adm Biswajit Dasgupta, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief ENC and was given a comprehensive briefing on various operational, technical and administrative activities/ initiatives of the Command and an overview of ongoing projects being progressed in the Area of Responsibility of ENC.
Adm R Hari Kumar visited the Sea Harrier Museum, which was recently dedicated to the city by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Having served as the Commanding Officer of INS Viraat in 2010 when Sea Harriers operated from the aircraft carrier, the CNS commended the efforts of the VMRDA in establishing the world's only Sea Harrier museum. This adds to the city's unique collection of naval museums, which includes the Kursura Submarine Museum and the TU-142 Aircraft Museum.
Admiral R Hari Kumar also inaugurated the newly constructed Hostel at the Dockyard Apprentice School. This facility will significantly enhance the training infrastructure available for the young apprentices, aligning with the Skill India initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. He also visited some operational units and several recently commissioned naval facilities, including the state-of-the-art Submarine Damage Control & Fire Fighting Training Facility named “Rakshak.”
As part of social interaction, the CNS and Mrs Kala Hari Kumar, President NWWA, interacted with the recipients of gallantry awards and distinguished service medals, their family members and members of the naval fraternity along with their spouses.
