A massive landslide occurred between Manabar- Jarati section on 13th September-2023 due to incessant rains and blocked the railway track & train operations. A team of senior officials from Waltair Division lead by Divisional Railway Manager Shri Saurabh Prasad went to the site and deployed heavy duty machinery and materials & engaged workers in large numbers to carry the restoration works on war-footing. General Manager, East Coast Railway, Shri Manoj Sharma along with senior officials from East Coast Railway Head Quarters inspected the site for couple of times to assess the on-going works and extended all possible support for early completion of restoration.
There was about 10,000 cubic meter of mud filled with huge rocks and trees fell on the track. Despite inclement weather, intermittent rains, the restoration works carried on war-footing. The task of the restoration activity was focused to stabilize further landslide and then to clear the huge earthen. Heavy duty machinery was engaged in the restoration activity. More than 25 excavators, proclainers and more than 450 workforce engaged to clear the track. Accident relief train from Koraput, Material relief trains, OHE cars were engaged.
Construction Team led by Shri S Srinivas, Chief Administrative Officer Construction along with two Chief Engineers and other officials camped at site for seventeen days to oversee the removal of earth, soil and Boulders using machinery like excavators, Proclains, dumpers.
Consultants from Research Designs and Standards Organization(RDSO), Lucknow, expert faculty from Indian Railways Institute of Civil Engineering, Pune were also called.
Under the guidance of DRM Shri Saurabh Prasad, Waltair Division set up machinery, communication control centre, Power supply arrangements, illumination for 24x7 working, catering and drinking water arrangements for labour and supervision staff. DRM has monitored the work personally round the clock.
12 loaded Goods trains which had got locked up in Jagdalpur - Kirandul Area were dispatched to consignees like Vizag Steel plant, Gannavaram Port, Jindal Steel, Arcelor Mittal, Wellspun etc today. Also, six Empty rakes were moved by Waltair Division to Bacheli and Kirandul for loading by National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC).
