GM, SOUTH COAST RAILWAY PRESENTS SAFETY AWARDS TO FOUR EMPLOYEES FOR EXEMPLARY SAFETY VIGILANCE
Safety in railway operations is strengthened by the dedication, vigilance and unwavering commitment of employees who remain alert to potential hazards and act promptly to prevent untoward incidents. Recognizing such exemplary commitment and services, Shri Sandeep Mathur, General Manager, South Coast Railway, presented Safety Awards to four employees for their outstanding contribution towards ensuring safe, secure and reliable train operations.
This marks the first presentation of Safety Awards by the General Manager after the formation of South Coast Railway, honouring employees whose exceptional alertness and timely action helped avert potential accidents and safeguard railway operations.
On 02 June 2026, while exchanging All Right signals to an Up Goods train, Shri M. Ramesh Babu, Station Superintendent, Chirala of Vijayawada Division noticed broken iron strips securing iron coil rolls in two wagons. He immediately alerted the Loco Pilot, Station Master/Vetapalem and the concerned control office. Acting on his timely information, the train was stopped at Vetapalem for examination. His prompt action prevented a potential accident that could have occurred due to the iron coil rolls falling and obstructing adjacent lines.
On 15 June 2026, at around 23:15 hrs, Shri Shivam Dixit, Pointsman, Yerpedu in Guntakal displayed exceptional alertness by detecting a slack fish plate and a weld crack on the Down Main Line in Yerpedu Yard. He immediately informed the concerned Station Master and Permanent Way Inspector, enabling prompt corrective action. His vigilance helped avert a potential accident and ensured the safety of train operations.
While working Train No. B-15 on 01 June 2026, Shri M. Praveen Kumar, Senior Assistant Loco Pilot, Guntakal noticed a red-hot wheel on a wagon of Train No. JSWT passing in the opposite direction. He immediately alerted the Loco Pilot through walkie-talkie, following which the train was stopped at Bantanahal. Examination revealed a hot axle. His prompt alertness and effective communication helped prevent a potential accident.
On 09 May 2026, while working Train No. 12864 Yesvantpur- Howrah express, Shri Ch. Ram Mohan Rao, Train Manager, Visakhapatnam division, noticed a hot axle in a wagon of an Up Goods train running on the adjacent line. He immediately informed the Coaching Controller and Station Master/Vizianagaram, enabling the Carriage & Wagon staff to attend to and rectify the defect. His timely intervention helped prevent a potential accident and ensured safe train operations.
Congratulating the awardees, Shri Sandeep Mathur, General Manager, South Coast Railway, appreciated their exemplary vigilance, dedication and sense of responsibility. He emphasised that the alertness of frontline railway employees plays a crucial role in identifying potential safety hazards at an early stage and taking timely corrective action.
Principal Heads of Departments and Divisional Railway Managers of all four Divisions witnessed the felicitation ceremony. Following the felicitation, GM Shri Sandeep Mathur continued the Safety Review Meeting, focusing on various critical safety and operational issues across the Zone.
