వేసవిలో కాలుష్య నియంత్రణ పై పోర్ట్ అధికారుల సమావేశం

విశాఖపట్నం పోర్ట్ అథారిటీ (VPA)లో గౌరవ ఎమ్మెల్యే శ్వంశీకృష్ణ శ్రీనివాస యాదవ్ మరియు గౌరవ డిప్యూటీ చైర్‌పర్సన్ శ్రీమతి రోష్ని అపరాంజి కొరాటి, IAS ఆధ్వర్యంలో వేసవి కాలంలో పర్యావరణ నియంత్రణ పై సమగ్ర భాగస్వామ్య సమావేశం నిర్వహించారు. ఈ సమావేశంలో వేసవి కాలంలో పోర్టు పరిధిలో కాలుష్య మరియు దుమ్ము నియంత్రణ చర్యలను సమర్ధవంతంగా అమలు చేయడంపై దృష్టి సారించారు.మెకానికల్ & ఎలక్ట్రికల్ విభాగం దుమ్ము కాలుష్యాన్ని తగ్గించేందుకు చేపడుతున్న చర్యలపై సమగ్ర వివరాలను సమావేశంలో అందించారు. 4 ఇండస్ట్రియల్ స్వీపింగ్ మెషీన్లు (సెల్ఫ్ ప్రొపెల్డ్ మరియు ట్రక్ మౌంటెడ్ యూనిట్లు) ప్రధాన కార్గో రహదారులు, డాక్ ప్రాంతాలు మరియు ముఖ్య కూడళ్లలో పనిచేస్తున్నాయి. అదనంగా, సుమారు 20 కి.మీ డాక్ ప్రాంతంలో 50 మీటర్ల పరిధి కలిగిన 6 ఫాగ్ మెషీన్లు/క్యానన్లు గాలిలో తేలే దుమ్మును తగ్గించేందుకు ఉపయోగిస్తున్నారు.బల్క్ కార్గో నుంచి ఉత్పన్నమయ్యే దుమ్మును నియంత్రించేందుకు, S-6, NH యార్డ్, WQ-7 & WQ-8 మరియు ఈస్ట్ యార్డ్ వంటి ప్రధాన నిల్వ ప్రదేశాల్లో 186 మెకానికల్ డస్ట్ సప్రెషన్ సిస్టమ్ (MDSS) స్ప్రింక్లర్లు ఏర్పాటు చేయబడ్డాయి. ఇవి సుమారు 40,000 చదరపు మీటర్ల విస్తీర్ణాన్ని కవర్ చేస్తున్నాయి. అదనంగా, 10 ట్యాంకర్ ట్రక్కుల ద్వారా రోజుకు సుమారు 180 ట్రిప్పులతో నిరంతర నీటి చల్లడం జరుగుతోంది.నీటి కాలుష్య నియంత్రణలో భాగంగా, యెరిగెడ్డ మరియు గంగులగెడ్డ ప్రవాహ మార్గాలలో 3 ఫ్లోటింగ్ ట్రాష్ బ్యారియర్లు (FTB) ఏర్పాటు చేశారు, ఇవి హార్బర్‌లోకి ప్రవేశించే తేలియాడే వ్యర్థాలను సేకరిస్తున్నాయి. అలాగే, సీవేజ్ ట్రీట్‌మెంట్ ప్లాంట్ (STP) సామర్థ్యాన్ని 10 MLD నుండి 15 MLDకు పెంచి, వ్యర్థజలాలను శుద్ధి చేసి మళ్లీ వినియోగంలోకి తీసుకువస్తున్నారు.పర్యావరణానికి అనుకూలమైన చర్యలలో భాగంగా, 10 మెగావాట్ + 770 కిలోవాట్ సౌర విద్యుత్ ప్రాజెక్టులు అమలు చేయబడి, గ్రీన్ హౌస్ వాయువుల ఉద్గారాలను 8.27 మెట్రిక్ టన్నుల CO₂ వరకు తగ్గించడంలో సహాయపడ్డాయి. కోల్ మరియు ఐరన్ ఓర్ నిర్వహణలో యాంత్రీకరణను PPP విధానంలో చేపట్టడం ద్వారా దుమ్ము ఉద్గారాలను తగ్గిస్తున్నారు.అదనపు మౌలిక సదుపాయ చర్యలలో కోల్ నిల్వలపై మరియు ట్రక్కులపై తార్పాలిన్ కవర్లు, నీటి స్ప్రే సదుపాయంతో కూడిన మూసివేసిన కన్వేయర్ వ్యవస్థలు, PLC ఆధారిత ఆటోమేటెడ్ MDSS వ్యవస్థలు ఉన్నాయి. నగర సరిహద్దుల్లో 4 కి.మీ పొడవైన ఎత్తైన డస్ట్ బ్యారియర్ గోడలు నిర్మించబడినాయి. దుమ్ము వ్యాప్తి నివారణ కోసం అధిక సామర్థ్యం కలిగిన కవర్డ్ స్టోరేజ్ షెడ్లు కూడా ఏర్పాటు చేసియున్నారు.పచ్చదనం పెంపు కార్యక్రమంలో భాగంగా 6.65 లక్షల మొక్కలను నాటి గ్రీన్ బెల్ట్ అభివృద్ధి చేశారు. జిల్లా వ్యాప్తంగా 10 లక్షల మొక్కలు నాటే కార్యక్రమం కొనసాగుతోంది.పర్యావరణ పర్యవేక్షణ కోసం నిరంతర గాలి నాణ్యత పర్యవేక్షణ కేంద్రాలు ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. మరిన్ని కేంద్రాలు నెలకొల్పేందుకు ఏర్పాట్లు జరుగుతున్నాయి . ఎఫ్లూయెంట్ ట్రీట్‌మెంట్ ప్లాంట్లు (ETPs), చిన్న STPs, CNG బస్సులు, జూట్ బ్యాగ్‌ల పంపిణీ వంటి పర్యావరణ అనుకూల చర్యలు అమలవుతున్నాయి.పోర్ట్ చేపడుతున్న చర్యలను అభినందిస్తూ, గౌరవ ఎమ్మెల్యే మరియు డిప్యూటీ చైర్‌పర్సన్ లు వేసవి కాలంలో శుభ్రమైన, పచ్చదనం కలిగిన, కాలుష్య రహిత పోర్టు వాతావరణం కోసం భాగస్వాములు అందరూ సమన్వయంతో సమిష్టిగా పనిచేయాలని సూచించారు.

Braving the scorching summer heat, these dedicated individuals continue to serve humanity with unwavering commitment, proving that true service knows no age or retirement.

As temperatures soar and the sun beats down relentlessly, these railway volunteers—many of them former railway staff—step forward to provide relief to thousands of passengers and pilgrims. At railway stations and key locations, they tirelessly distribute drinking water, ensuring that travelers find respite during the most trying summer days.

At the revered Simhachalam, their service takes on an even deeper significance. Here, retired railway employees prepare and serve meals such as pulihora, buttermilk, and pongali to pilgrims. Their day begins early with cooking, continues through the afternoon with distribution, and concludes with cleaning—an unbroken cycle of selfless dedication.

Rather than choosing rest or recreation, these individuals have embraced a higher calling. Their efforts not only provide physical relief from the heat but also nourish the spirit of community and compassion.

Adding momentum to this noble initiative, the Duvvada Rail Users Association has been instrumental in mobilizing NGOs and local volunteers. Under the guidance of Shri K Eeswara Rao, collaborations have flourished, bringing together associations, volunteers, and even police personnel in a united effort to serve the traveling public.

This collective endeavor strongly supports the initiatives of the Waltair Division of East Coast Railway, which has been actively working to provide free drinking water services during the summer months.

Commending these extraordinary efforts, Divisional Railway Manager Shri Lalit Bohra expressed his appreciation for the teams, NGOs, and volunteers. He emphasized that such acts of service set a powerful example for today’s younger generation, inspiring them to recognize and respond to societal needs.

This initiative stands as a living example of the spirit of collective progress and shared responsibility of how service, when embraced wholeheartedly, becomes a lifelong journey.

INTER DEPARTMENTAL SPORTS MELA–2026: ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT EMERGES OVERALL CHAMPION

The Inter Departmental Sports Mela–2026, organized by East Coast Railway Sports Association (ECoRSA), Waltair Division, concluded with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit at Visakhapatnam. The Chief Guest of the occasion was DRM Shri Lalit Bohra, President ECoRSA; Guest of Honour is Smt Jyotsna Bohra President ECoR Women’s Welfare Organisation- Waltair. The mega event was also witnessed by ADRM Infra Shri E Santharam, ADRM operations Shri K Rama Rao, Sports Officer Shri Harandh Mopuri, Treasurer Shri Diptanshu Sharma and other officers of the Division.

The event witnessed active participation from various departments, showcasing exceptional teamwork, sportsmanship, and athletic excellence across multiple disciplines including Cricket, Football, badminton, chess, carroms, volleyball, cricket, table tennis, and tennis.

Overall Championship Results
The Engineering Department emerged as the Overall Champion, securing 34 points, while the Mechanical (C&W) Department finished as the Runner-up with 32 points, reflecting a closely contested championship.

 Operating Team excelled in Ball Badminton and Cricket (Men).
 Electrical (OP) Team showed best performance in Carroms (Women) and Chess (Men).
 Mechanical (C&W) Team dominated Volleyball (Men) and Football (Men).
 Commercial Team showcased excellence in Table Tennis (Men & Women).
 DLS Team secured top positions in Shuttle Badminton (Women) and Volleyball (Women).
 S&T Team won the Tennis (Men) title.

DRDO & Indian Navy successfully conduct maiden salvo launch of Naval Anti-ship Missile-Short Range
Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy have successfully conducted the maiden salvo launch of Naval Anti-ship Missile-Short Range (NASM-SR) from the Navy’s helicopter platform off the coast of Bay of Bengal in Odisha. During the trial, two missiles were launched in quick succession from the same helicopter, making it the first salvo launch of an advanced air-launched anti-ship missile system.
All test objectives were fully met as per the data captured using various range tracking instruments like radar, electro-optical system and telemetry deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur. Along with proving the salvo launch capability, the missiles demonstrated the waterline hit capability. The test launches were witnessed by senior scientists from DRDO, Users’ representatives from the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force and Development-cum-Production Partners (DCPP).

The NASM-SR missile uses a solid propulsion booster and long-burn sustainer. All critical subsystems like the seeker, integrated avionics module, advanced navigation and guidance using fibre-optic gyroscope-based Inertial Navigation System & radio-altimeter along with advanced control & guidance algorithm, high-bandwidth two-way data link and Jet-vane control developed indigenously by different laboratories of DRDO and Indian Industries.
The missile system has been developed by Hyderabad-based Research Center Imarat in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories namely Defence Research & Development Laboratory, Hyderabad; High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Pune; Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Chandigarh & ITR Chandipur. The missiles are currently being produced by DcPP with help from other Indian industries and start-ups.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has complimented DRDO, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force and the industry, including the DCPP partners, for the successful maiden salvo launch. The development of this missile will further enhance the capabilities of the Defence Forces to a great extent, he said.

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat congratulated the teams associated with the successful salvo launches.
