Marking this momentous occasion, General Manager, South Coast Railway, Shri Sandeep Mathur, extended a warm welcome to officers and staff joining the new zone.Shri Sandeep Mathur, GM, stated that the formation of South Coast Railway aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency, strengthening operational effectiveness, and improving passenger and freight services. He emphasized that the new zone would play a pivotal role in accelerating infrastructure growth and fostering economic development across the region.During the meeting, the System Map of South Coast Railway was formally unveiled, showcasing the jurisdiction and network of the newly created zone. He stated that creating of a new zone is a rare event in history of Indian Railways. It signifies not only administrative restructuring but also a renewed commitment to efficiency, development and enhanced service delivery.Underscoring the paramount importance of railway safety, General Manager convened a comprehensive Safety Review Meeting, making it clear that safety would remain the foremost priority of the new zone. Shri Sandeep Mathur stressed that while operational performance and infrastructure development are essential, safety must continue to be the guiding principle in every aspect of railway functioning.Divisional Railway Managers gave presentation on the Divisions that are integrating with the new Zone, elaborate discussions on asset management, human resource management, challenges to be addressed and resolved etc were highlighted in the meeting.The Safety Review Meeting was attended by the Shri Lalit Bohra, Divisional Railway Manager, Visakhapatnam Division; Shri Mohit Sonakiya, Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada Division; Smt Sudeshna Sen, Divisional Railway Manager, Guntur Division; Shri Chandra Shekhar Gupta Divisional Railway Manager, Guntakal Division, along with Principal Heads of Departments (PHODs) and senior officers from various branches. Detailed discussions were held on operational safety, infrastructure maintenance, safety audits, accident prevention measures, crew counseling, inspection drives, and strengthening of safety practices across the zone. General Manager directed all departments to work in close coordination and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols to achieve the highest standards of safe train operations.Shri Sandeep Mathur expressed confidence that the collective efforts of officers and staff, Team Work, would enable South Coast Railway to emerge as one of the most efficient and progressive railway zones in the country. A total of 53 train services scheduled to run on various routes on October 27 and 28 have been cancelled. With this, passengers travelling between Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kakinada Port, Visakhapatnam, Parvathipuram, Narasapuram, Machilipatnam, Bhimavaram, Guntur and other places will have to change their travel plans.Details of cancelled trains..

Vizag Vision Visakhapatnam :INDIAN RAILWAYS TO OFFER OPTIONAL TRAVEL INSURANCE AT RESERVATION COUNTERS FROM OCTOBER 27Indian Railways will introduce optional travel insurance for passengers booking reserved tickets at Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters from October 27.The facility, already available to passengers booking tickets online, will now be extended to those purchasing tickets at railway reservation counters. Passengers booking tickets at reservation counters will be able to opt for insurance covering death, disability and injuries arising from rail travel. The facility is optional, and passengers must provide their consent to avail themselves of the coverage. Those opting for insurance will need to provide their mobile number and pay the premium digitally along with the ticket fare. Policy details will be sent to the registered mobile number. Passengers who do not opt for the facility will not receive insurance coverage under the scheme.Higher officials of the Railways will monitor the implementation. All the technical and operational support will be extended by Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for resolution. Under the existing policy terms applicable to online ticket bookings, the insurance premium is 45 paise per passenger, inclusive of taxes. This rate has been in effect since February 17, 2024. The same terms and conditions will apply to passengers opting for insurance at PRS counters.The policy provides the following benefits, subject to its terms and conditions as per the railways act 1989 and amended from time to time: Death: Compensation of up to ₹10 lakh. Permanent total disability: Coverage of up to ₹10 lakh. Permanent partial disability: Compensation of up to ₹7.5 lakh. Hospitalisation expenses for injuries: Coverage of up to ₹2 lakh. Transportation of mortal remains: Up to ₹10,000.The initiative aims to make travel insurance accessible to more railway passengers by extending the optional facility to those booking reserved tickets directly at railway counters.
